The religious clash is believed to have occurred during a football gala between the two religious groups at the community park.
According to Kumasi-based, Agyenkwa FM, the clash was triggered when a player from one of the playing sides was given a yellow card twice leading to his expulsion.

However, one of the officials in the game refused to enforce the rule hence the agitation from the opposing side.
