Trainee Teachers to Picket at Education Ministry on June 5 over Unpaid Feeding Grant Arrears

Students of the Government assisted Colleges of Education have threatened to picket at the Ministry of Education on June 5,if their feeding grants have not hit their accounts before the said date.

In a statement issued by the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana, the students are demanding for their feeding grant which was in arrears from the second semester of the 2015/16 academic year, which affected the newly trained teachers, current level 300 students, level 200 as well as the level 100 students till date.

The Trainees also indicated that the newly trained teachers were also being owed a 7 months salary arrears without any explanation, and for these reasons, all trainees both on campus and teaching practice should wear red armed bands to school on June 1st and 2nd ,to remind government of their salary and feeding grants arrears .

But if all these failed, then the decision to picket on June 5 will be the last option.

According to the statement, the leadership of the association had been in several engagements with the government through the Education Minister concerning their feeding grant arrears ,of which they were promised a one week payment duration, of which more than a month now and nothing positive was heard from the politician.

The students explained the hardship they are currently being subjected to financially, which includes mostly of the suppression from their Principals to pay their feeding fees or forfeited their exams.
