We must know the cause of our children problems in school and in the house as well as their private life.
Recently I have been hearing of a whole lot of news from friends,television stations,radio stations and even on the internet that,the television is spoiling our children and even lead them to engage in early relationships which was not supposed to be done at that stage.
Sometimes I side with that to some extend because the television also has a great influence on our youth especially the *young girls*.
There was a time ago when students were not allowed to watch television at a particular time.
There was a time when most of the programs were not on television for the children to watch.
There was a time when educative programs was the sole aim of most the television stations.
There was a time when our children were giving the necessary attention.
Most of the adults programs was done in the late night.
Now the old world has been left behind and we are now enjoying the new world where we give right and freedom to children as early as ten years of age.
When we now see our children to be adult.
What we discuss today they can also partake all because they also have the *nose to nose* same issue.
It has been my baffle to ask our parents, do they really know the cause of their children engaging in early sex and in early relationships these days?
I know all the blame will be directed to *TV* programs but to me it is *NOT*
Just go round to the schools start from the primary school and try to engage the pupil on one on one interactions and you will know our TV is just a subset of the main cause.
Let's not forget that every human be it old or young survives with biological needs which includes;food,water,clothes and many more.
The days when children issues was a priority to parents, we had less problems with them.
There was a time when government initiated an idea of sharing sanitary pad to the students in our second cycle institutions. It became the ugly idea to people and it was lambasted here and there but you ask yourself don't these pupil need it ?
Let me share a story a JHS student shared with me on how she is suffering to get a pad during her menstruation period:
I have been monitoring this girl from afar for so long because she is very good in academics but whenever the month ends she will start absenting herself from school and even if she comes she will not even go out to eat nor play with the friends.she becomes isolated during that time.
I had to call her and ask her what the problem is.
All she told me was 5cedis was giving to her every week,meaning 1cedi everyday till Friday and she have to save from this 5cedis so she can buy pad at the end of the month.
But if there is extra cost in the school she will have to spend the money so the month will end without her getting money to buy this sanitary pad.
Always she have to try and put on folded clothes (3tam) to stop the blood from spoiling her attire.she told me;during the period she feels to get a boyfriend to buy for her because the parents are not willing to buy for her and expect her to use that money given to her to buy the pad.
We all know that the world has graduated from the less cost of living to the high cost of living.
We now term the era as a computer world or global village.
If you leave this innocent girl to continue to struggle for a common pad,at the end of the day she will be engaging in early sex or relationship so her problem will be solved.
This is just one girl's story, do we know of the millions out there own ?
Most of the adolescents engage in early relationships all due to some of these things.
Some of them, buying of panties,inner wears and many more becomes an obstacle for not living a chaste life.
Parents have ignored all these and have centered on one thing living the dangerous ones which has been the major cause of children problems in the country.
If care is not taken these young girls will end up been street girls.
Our concentration shouldn't be on petty issues and leave the major cause unattended to.
I always ask myself do our parents really know the cause of their girls been so addicted to a boyfriend?
All because that particular boyfriend can give her something small which she thinks will help her save her from disgrace.
We must try our best and find out what is wrong with our children and stop the blame games.
I personally don't really support most of the TV shows nowadays but to conclude that the TV is straying our children from a chaste life, I stand to differ.
Let's know our children inside out especially during their puberty age.
The puberty age is a critical age and must be looked at very well and with much attention.
The more we leave them to do what they want to do,the more they also add theirs to it.
I pray the sharing of pad to our students must be well addressed and should start from the primary level.
Because these days most of the girls menstruate as early as ten years.
